The health insurance domain has been one which has seen it being seen in different ways in different periods of time both by the population and also the companies giving these insurance policies. The business potential of this sector was one, which was deemed to be quite ineffective for churning in profits and, therefore, was almost a complete no-entry zone for most of the entities involved in the business of giving insurance policies. The word 'almost' has some relevance with it due to these insurances being given in a mass manner to most of the companies in the form of insurance coverage schemes. Today, the situation is completely different due to the change in the perception of the population about this sector of insurances, which has led to an increase in the number of people applying for health insurance policies. Business is this regard, has assumed the aspect of being profitable and, therefore, the pensive attitude which was a prevalent character of this sector, is on the verge of being diminished completely. This sector is now also a witness to many new devices being used to encounter the rising expenditures (a resultant of the current financial situation, one which is not at all healthy). One of the highly ambitious thoughts is the acquiring of hospitals by insurance companies. All the sectors identified in a demographic manner, need the benefits of health insurance, and this is now quite a possible occurrence with the entry of private establishments in this sector apart from the government ones. The steps which are to be taken both by IRDA and the private entities are ones, which hold an immense degree of importance for the future of the health insurance sector in this country. With the economy being on the boom in the Indian subcontinent, incomes being made by its citizens have also seen a major rise. Coupled with this, there has also been an increase in the awareness about the benefits of having a good and a 'secured' health. The demand for health insurances have, therefore, increased. This also has to be matched with a proper capability to provide this insurance which is quite a formidable task but is of course an achievable one.
